Library Personal Device Policy
Effective: January 28, 2019
I. Permitted Uses - Students in the library may use personal electronic devices for:

V. Enforcement - Failure to adhere to this policy may result in:
- Reading - including ebooks, audiobooks, and news websites
- Music with headphones
- Schoolwork
II. Non-Permitted Uses - Students must adhere to the following restrictions:
- No communication - Students may not make calls or send texts without permission from a staff member.
- No social media - Students may not view or post to social media without permission from a staff member.
- No taking pictures or recording video/audio - To protect the privacy of all library users, students may not record without permission from a staff member. Students may take pictures of their own schoolwork against a plain background.
- No watching videos - Unless they are related to schoolwork. Students may listen to music through YouTube.
- No games
III. Expectations Regarding Staff:
- Teachers' rules supersede library rules when a class is in the library
- Students using personal devices must show their screen to staff upon request - Refusal will result in loss of phone privileges.
- Students must put personal devices away upon request
IV. Training:
- Annual training - Students must watch a brief training video, and complete a follow-up form before using personal devices in the library for the first time each year.
V. Enforcement - Failure to adhere to this policy may result in:
- Loss of personal device privileges in the library
- Confiscation of devices - Any devices not returned at the end of the block will be sent to the office.
